Kim Lewellen has just taken the reins of The University of Virginia Golf Program. Coach Lewellen hails from East Carolina University, for which she led the Pirates to the program’s first ever Conference USA Championship in 2006 and a runner-up finish this season. Her 2006 squad qualified for the NCAA East Regional, the third time a team from ECU had reached NCAA postseason play. She was an All-American Collegiate Golfer, Two Time All-ACC Player, and NCAA East Regional medalist at the University of North Carolina. Coach Lewellen competed on the European Tour, LPGA Tour and Futures Tour, for which she won the Briarwood Invitational. You might also recognize Coach Lewellen from the “Big Break V” and “Big Break Reunion” Golf Channel Show.
Brian Bailie is in his third season as the assistant coach for the Cavaliers. Bailie joined the Cavalier staff after four seasons as the head men's and women's golf coach at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C. As the Bears' mentor, Bailie guided both programs to new heights. On the women's side, Bailie led the squad to back-to-back South Atlantic Conference Championships in 2003 and 2004. Those titles were the first two in program history. Bailie led the Bears to their first-ever trips to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2002 and 2003. Bailie coached eight players to all-league honors and was named SAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year twice (2003 and 2005) as well. He also led Megan Jolly to NCAA Division II first-team All-America accolades in 2002, and the team finished with its highest-ever ranking at No. 8 in the nation.
